Who we are

How we rank products

Every buying guide on this site follows the same process:

• Shortlist. We pick the most popular, best-selling models in a category — the ones shoppers are actually choosing between.
• One rubric per category. Before scoring anything, we fix 4 criteria that matter for daily use of that product type, and how each will be assessed.
• Same-conditions comparison. Every model is assessed against those criteria the same way, so scores are comparable across the list.
• Publish everything. Sub-scores, pros, cons, and who should buy something other than our #1 pick. If our top pick has a weakness, it's on the page.

What we don't do: we don't adjust scores for brand, price, or how much commission a merchant pays. The scoring rubric for each guide is published at the top of that guide.

How we make money

This site is funded by affiliate commissions. When you click a link to a merchant and buy something, the merchant pays us a percentage. It costs you nothing extra.

Two things you should know about that:

• Commission rates differ between merchants. Some products on our lists pay us more than others. Our #1 picks are sometimes — not always — the higher-commission option. The scores and the reasoning are published precisely so you can judge our ranking on its merits rather than take it on faith.
• Product pages on this site are advertorials. They exist to help you choose and to earn a commission, and they're labelled as advertorials at the top of every guide.

We do not charge brands for placement on our lists, and we do not accept payment to change a score or a ranking.

Corrections

If we've got a spec wrong, a price out of date, or a claim you can show is inaccurate, tell us. We'd rather fix a page than defend it. Corrections are made on the page with the "last updated" date revised.
